EdUpdate2008-May4th

I haven't sent an EdUpdate in while, so if you don't want one from me, just kindly  let me know and I will remove your name from my database.
Of course, that means I will not receive your emails about what's going on with you anymore either!

I have been working here at the station ( www.kkvv.com ) full time as well as going to all of the evening broadcasting classes ( www.gocsb.comwww.myspace.com/csblasvegas ). I instruct about once each month. The students are young and middle age adults up to my age. I go to the classes that I do not teach, because I can! I learn too!

One Wednesday evening when the class was about television, the instructor, a pretty and young lass who is a TV news anchor/reporter was telling the students some things while they worked on a project. Then one of the students, a middle aged woman, turned to me annd asked about getting into Voice Over. I talked to her about five minutes regarding the subject. She also asked me if I taught classes. Later that night and the next day, I thought to myself that I could teach classes couldn't I? I also thought that most of my VO resume` is the work I do here at the station, so I really should kick myself in the butt to get my own-self doing VO out there!

I was thinking that since I do not teach Voice-Over, I could send the students that ask to one of the folks I do know in the industry that holds classes either at their studio in their town, or even via tele-class on the phone/internet. I sent an email to Bob Bergen, the Voice Actor that does the voice of Porky Pig, and asked him about classes that he holds because his website was not updated on that. He replied to my email in about an hour asking me to just send the student straight to him via email!

So, I can send students to my friend Betty Lougaris ( http://www.mediaguilds.com ) who teaches VO at the local community college. My pal Rodney Saulsberry ( http://www.rodneysaulsberry.com/ ) who often has teleclasses, and workshops in L.A. My friend Debbie Munro ( http://www.debsvoice.com/DebbieMunro.html ) who also has tele-classes now from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. And the biggest VO training company out there, my pals James Alburger and Penny Abshire ( http://www.voiceacting.com/index.html ).

Then, Bob Bergen had his workshop producer contact me about helping to arrange a 'Las Vegas Weekend Voice-Over Animation Class.' Go to his website ( www.bobbergen.com ) and see what a highly talented individual this is! I went to a weekend Voice-Over animation sea cruise to Mexico with him and some others back in two thousand six. He's great, and just a real nice guy too. You may or may not remember the story about how in 1984 I almost got to audition to do voice acting for Hanna-Barbera cartoons! I got married instead - 'nuff said. I still have that dream, although I know whatever God has for me, He will see to!

Another thing I did is contact the agency that I signed with last year. They are trying to start a voice-over department, and it is still not off the ground. So I have been calling them regularly trying to 'beat the bushes' to flush out some work! I met with my Voice Over agent, and we discussed having me start developing a Voice Over curriculuum so that I can teach classes through the agency, and I will get special pay for that. Pray for me on this, I've never done it before, and most of it is on my shoulders. I have only taken a few Voice-Over classes myself, so it is completely new! I told him that I still need him to get me work so that I can make money and build my resume`! The director of CSB School Of Broadcasting Las Vegas also talked to me about teaching a voice over clinic there.

I still have my long term client, Tom Perkins, of www.FitnessBusinessRadio.com and his podcast. I have been working with Tom for nearly three years now! I am also involved in editing the works of some 'Success  Authors' Books' from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. I will be editing their work with a word processor, then recording them as VO to offer with the edited printed works. The computer entry of each book to word processor and the editing of the text is a lot of work! I need some self-butt kicking on this to keep it going! ;-)

I spend quite a bit of time riding my new motorcycle, my 'Pegasus' as I have named it ( http://www.polarisindustries.com/en-us/VRA/NewsEvents/EdRadio.htm ). It is a 2008 Victory Vision Tour Premium, and I firmly believe it is the finest motorcycle I have ever ridden! Only a biker can understand why a dog sticks his head out the car window into the wind!

I hear from my sons, siblings, relatives, and my parents often, I am happy for that! Just gotta keep on keepin' on.

GBU,
Ed
